This classic is a favorite. The title Freddie's Dead is certainly about someone
whose dead, but Freddie represents the ghettos and the many addicts who
were dying but no one cared. The song was written for the soundtrack black-
ploitation movie Superfly, but Mayfield would say later that the song did
spoke of the many problems these ghettos faced for there were many Freddies
out there. A great song with a powerful message.
