#29 -Simple Minds Don't You (Forget about me)

The theme for John Hughes "The Breakfast Club" was initially turned down by a couple of artists like Cy Curnin, The Fixx, Bryan Ferry, and Billy Idol. In fact Simple Minds first turned it turned out as well but were encouraged by their label A&M to record the song which turned out to be a big success for them propelled by the success of the movie. It's one of my favorite songs during this era, and it goes on to become number 1 on the charts the bands number only 1 hit in the US. It would become number 7 in the UK. It would remain on the charts from 1985 until 1987 one of the longest time spans for any song in the history of the charts. Billy Idol would record his own version in his 2001 greatest hits album.
